Like your average queer stoner, I need to know where I can find my people amongst safe spaces partaking in the finer things of life. Less commonly, I also have a few years of experience running queer cannabis parties, so finding these venues has literally been my job. That being said(!), here’s some of my favorite 420 friendly Brooklyn venues.
First off is Purgatory, a queer bar in Bushwick. Previously a funeral home (hence the name), you can find cannabis sponsored events here or simply people lighting up outside on their patio. The bar and staff are not only 420 friendly, but extremely welcoming. Considering that community building seems to be at the forefront of Purgatory’s ethos, it isn’t surprising that they help create a safe space that empowers both queerness and cannabis.
While Art bar + cafe in Prospect Heights doesn’t hold cannabis events, they do have a beautiful garden that leads into the main venue and is 420 friendly. What I also love about this place is being able to eat and drink when you finish that joint and realize “this garden is too nice for me to leave”. Walk by to see the open garden layout and you might see the owner himself out front enjoying a little 420 magic!
A venue that just reopened, but sadly announced they will also be closing again, is Dromedary: Coming Out in Bushwick. Since this place reopened, they’ve thrown tons of queer parties. Fortunately, that includes 420 friendly and cannabis sponsored events too! Other than their strong efforts in cultivating queer community spaces, as stoners, we love when the venue has food and drink available too.
There’s lots of 420 friendly spaces to discover in Brooklyn! As the cannabis landscape evolves, we hope to see more added to this list. Send us your recs and we might include them in our next round up!
